The Grateful Dead enjoyed performing in the Austin area and visited the city many times. A series of historic concerts were held at Manor Downs (a race track located just a short drive from the city). However, the band also performed at other venues in the city--including the Austin Municipal Auditorium. Following one the Auditorium shows, the band practiced for several nights at the Armadillo World Headquarters and jammed with performers like Leon Russell and Benny Thurman (a founding member of the 13th Floor Elevators). If you have any old Dead posters from the Lone Star State and wish to part with them, please contact me at dennishickey@missouristate.edu and please be sure to visit all my Texas concert poster websites. You won't be disappointed!
