taken from the website of the Southeastern Connecticut Gang Activities Group. I know very little
about motorcycle/biker gangs, so I am relying upon that group to provide

They consider themselves the original bad boys. In 1957 Ralph Hubert
"Sonny" Barger Jr. formed the third chapter of the Hell's Angels.
By 1958 he was Chapter President. The AMA had characterized ninety-nine
percent of the country's motorcyclists as clean living folks enjoying pure
sports. But it condemned the other one percent as antisocial barbarians. The
Angels, rather than being insulted, decided to exploit the glowing tribute.
The Angels produce a one per center patch as a supplement to regular colors.
Using Barger's military background gives the club a military structure. The
club grows and gains media attention. In 1967 a movie starring Jack
Nicholson called, "Hell's Angels on Wheels", and a book by Hunter
Thompson called, "Hell's Angel, the Strange and Terrible Saga of the
Outlaw Motorcycle Gang" hit the public.
The Hell's Angel Motorcycle Club is the prototype for every outlaw
motorcycle gang in the world. The Angels are what they claim to be: the
meanest, baddest, and greatest gang of white trash on wheels. And they love
it. The Hell's Angels are guided by a simple philosophy: "Fuck the
World". An Angel does what he wants, regardless of the consequences.
Have no doubts, the Hell's Angels are a business. They produce
methamphetamine (crank/meth), phencyclidine (PCP), and lysergic acid
diethylamide (LSD). They grow marijuana by the truck loads. They have
prostitution and white slavery world wide. Cocaine is smuggled in via
diplomats from other countries. Cars and motorcycles are stolen. The VIN is
changed or they are stripped for parts. Parts are then sold or traded at
In 1966 the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club-incorporates in California to curb
imitators. The articles of incorporation describe the Angels as a club
dedicated to the promotion and advancement of motorcycle driving, motorcycle
clubs, and all aspects of motorcycling and motorcycle driving.
