The study of Gypsy dialects has been a recognized sub-specialty within the field of linguistics for well over two hundred years, but surprisingly little has been published dealing with practical aspects of learning the language as it is actually spoken. Although literally thousands of articles have been written touching on every conceivable aspect of Romani linguistics, most are abstruse and highly technical, with the overwhelming majority aimed at those with scholarly interests in Indo-European philology or historical phonology.
