Problem #32

Two hallways, one of width a the other of width b, meet at a right angle. What is the length of the longest rod that will go around the corner without breaking or bending the rod? Ignore the width of the rod and consider the problem to be two-dimensional (e.g tilting the rod vertically is not allowed).
