Introduction
Microbiology and Immunology and various fields within these
disciplines offer excitement and challenge. These are rapidly growing scientific
disciplines and individuals trained in these areas find employment in health
care,
environment, safety, food and industry. The study of microbiology and immunology
offers many rewards to society and you. The Department of Biology offers nine courses in
microbiology and immunology and you will also find other courses directly related to
microbiology. These course make up a Comprehensive Bachelor of Science
degree with an option in Microbiology

- Vaccines that are made with DNA are new and you may be interested in the latest

- An Internet version of The Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy (Sixteenth
Edition) is available online. This particular version is searchable.
- PubMed is a site where you can do free
literature searches. It is an excellent resource for students

- Students can find valuable information about careers at a new site sponsored by the
National Association of Colleges and Employers titled JobWeb.
- The BioMedNet Job Exchange contains a broad selection
of about 1,000 job openings. Free registration is required.
- SciWeb is a commercial site focusing on industry
(non-research) jobs in the life sciences.
- Nature International Science Jobs is a
journal-sponsored site that lets users search the journal's classified advertisements.
- Cell Press is the journal Cell's job
database that allows users to check out the most recent past two issues.
- Students can participate in an online discussion of science careers with noted
scientists and employers through Career Workshops.
