• Congrats to our student Eiad Hamwi graduating with a BSc. in Physics and with the honor  Summa Cum Laude. Eiad's interdisciplinary senior research project concentrated on modeling the migration of smooth muscle cells towards blood vessels. Good luck Eiad in pursuing your graduate study!

 

• On November 30th of 2017, Mr. Md. Shaffiqul Islam successfully defended his thesis titled:

• Congratulations to our undergraduate students: Chris Robledo, Brittany Porter, Chad Brewer and Taylor Kuttenkuler to receive NASA-sponsored scholarships & become our own MSU's NASA SQUAD v. 2.0! They will work together to develop VR apps to simulate dynamics in Carbon nanocomposites.

• Excited to initiate a 3-year collaboration between our research group at Missouri State University as the lead institution and the research groups of Prof. Wai-Yim Ching from UMKC and Prof. Caizhi Zhou from Missouri S&T. The project focuses on developing multi-modal approaches to predict the creep behavior of advanced Ni-based Super Alloys and  is supported by the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL).

• Thanks to Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning at MSU for the support of our curriculum  innovation initiative titled "Cross-curricular biophysics laboratory experiences” led by Prof. Dan J Wilson, fostering a new collaboration between Kinesiology and PAMS depts.

 

 

 

 

 

• Attended INBRE Conference in Fayetteville, Arkansas (October 27-28) with Dr. Mayanovic and a number of graduate and undergraduate students. Our undergraduate students presented their findings on various interdisciplinary research areas including biophysics, mesoporous structures, nanolaminates & virtual reality applications.

• Look forward to organizing a symposium that focuses on disorder solids titled "Synergy in Multi-scale Modeling and Experiments to Resolve Complex Disordered Solids" at the 2018 Material Science & Technology (MS&T) Conference and Exhibition along with my colleagues from Iowa State University/Ames Lab., Ohio State University, University of North Texas and University of Ohio as co-organizers. MS&T conference is the most comprehensive annual forum for materials science and engineering technologies in US and next year, it will be held in Columbus, OH.

 

 

• Thanks to the Unity License Grant Program, we got thirty free educational licenses of Unity Pro. Look forward to educating our students with the Virtual Reality (VR) technology in the classroom.

• Thanks to undergraduate and graduate students from PAMS dept. that volunteered for the Weekend Backpack Program at Ozarks Food Harvest. The program donates child-friendly food items to take home every Friday at schools in Springfield and across the Ozarks. Keep it up fellows! September is the Hungry Action Month.

• Excited to collaborate with Dr. Razib Iqbal in coaching undergraduate students from the Computer Science Dept. & Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science (PAMS) Dept. to develop Virtual Reality (VR) apps for materials science simulations, thanks to the NASA-Missouri Space Grant Consortium (MOSGC) Affiliates Award. Look forward to our MSU's NASA-SQUAD v. 2.0.

      

   

• Look forward to being a part of a 3-year multi-university research collaboration between University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC-lead institution), Ohio State University and Missouri State University to design and fabricate polymer-derived ceramics with the financial support from the National Science Foundation (NSF): Designing Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer our Future (DMREF).

• Thanks to Austin Bollinger and Jesse Underwood for their help with the "origami of crystals" at Discovery Kids Summer Camps at CNAS.

• Dr. Dan J Wilson from Kinesiology gave a Guest Lecture in my intro physics class in the Summer demonstrating the wide applications of physics (biomechanics) in medical professions. Look forward to further discussions about integrating these interdisciplinary topics into our Physics curricula and minor.

• Graduation time! With Paul and his dad (Mr. Kennedy Simanjuntak) in front of Kemper Hall. Paul is heading to Mizzou to pursue a PhD in Mathematics. Congratulation Paul and wish you all the best. Go Tigers!

 

• On the final week of the Spring'17 semester, a number of our graduate students and I visited Dr. James Hackney's biomechanics lab. in the Dept. of Physical Therapy at our MSU.  Dr. Hackney's research focus is on the human lower body in high speed movements and we got the chance to test his excellent facility!

 

 

• Shafiq, Paul & I attended Bangladeshi Festival 2017 organized by the MSU's Bangladeshi students including Shafiq. Riding on the popular & colorful rickshaw!

• Eiad Hamwi and Jesse Underwood presented their research works at the CNAS Undergraduate Research Day (April 28th 2017). Eiad developed a new physics-based model to explain the migration of smooth muscle cells around proximal arteries as a part of our collaboration with Dr. Ryan Udan's lab from Biology Dept. Jesse worked on modeling aluminosilicate melts as a part of  a research collaboration between Dr. Mayanovic and me.

• Congratulations to these four undergraduate students (Matt Yeager, Chris Robledo, Brittany Porter, and Nick Delamora) in getting scholarships from NASA-Missouri Space Grant Consortium. As a group, they have been working together to develop Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications to visualize varieties of Carbon-based nano-composites. Many thanks to Prof. Mike Reed for being highly supportive of our "NASA SQUAD" program and Jir Shin Boey & MSU's Meyer Library for the Virtual Reality (VR) facility.

 

• Look forward to starting a research project with a global leader in innovative battery technology NorthStar Battery in minimizing both the Sn segregation during Pb-Sn rolling process and the water loss through polymer-based lead-acid battery casings. From Missouri State, the project will be a close collaborative research work between Prof. Robert Mayanovic, Prof. Mahua Biswas and our group.
